Imperial Cities, Chefchaouen & Merzouga - 12 days


Itinerary Overview

1st day: Casablanca Airport Transfer
After landing in Mohamed V airport, we will be waiting for you to pick you up and tansfer you to your hotel. Depending of the time of your flight, you can spend the rest of the day relaxing in yur hotel if you wish.

Otherwise, if time allows, you will visit the Hassan II mosque, the largest mosque in Africa and highest religious institution in the world. Decorated with beautiful tiles and Moroccan craftsmanship with amazing views of the ocean, the mosque is a sight to be seen. Later on in the day, you can take a walk by the cournish or relax in a cafe by the side of the ocean. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

2nd day: Casablanca - Rabat:
After breakfast in your hotel, we drive in the highway for an hour to Rabat the capital city. Located at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River on the Atlantic Ocean, Rabat is listed as a UNESCO Word heritage Site which is home to interesting historical and cultural attractions.

we visit the Hassan Tower, a symbol fo the city, and the Mausoleum of the Mohamed V, built in homage to the king. After lunch, there is time to visit more the Medina, the Oudaya gardens and Kasbah. Dinner and overnight in a beautiful riad.

3rd day:Rabat - Chefchaouen:
After breakfast, our trip continues through the highway to Chefchaoeun, crossing Ouazzane and the Middle Atlas Mountains to finally arrive in Chefchaouen.

After lunch, the rest of the day can be spent wandering the beautiful blue washed streets and alleys, and relaxing in one of the many cafés with amazing views of the hills and the valleys. Dinner and overnight in a beautiful riad.

4th day:Chefchaouen Sightseeing:
The first half of the day can be spent enjoying a sightseeing tour with a local guide who can show you many little stories and hidden spots that you will not get on visit on your own, or hike in the Rif Mountains to explore the diversified natural setting and admire the magical panoramic views of the city and the surrounding areas.

Having had lunch in one of the many local reqtaurant, enjoy a stroll in the Plaza Uta el-Hammam square to enjoy street food, admire the views of the Rif Mountains or simply chill in a cafe to get a taste of local life. Dinner and overnight in a beautiful riad.

5th day: Chefchaouen - Fes:
Having had breakfast, you leave the blue city to drive to Fes. The joureny takes us via the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Roman Remains of Volubilis. Here, it is possible to hire a local get to get rich insight into this interesting historical site.

From here, we continue to the holy site of the Moulay Idriss, not open for Non-Mustems, but the main square offer beautiful views and interesting shops. later, we continue through the hills and natural setting to arrive in Fes for dinner and the overnight in a riad.

6th day: Fes Sightseeing:
After breakfast in your riad, enjoy a full day guided tour of the medina, the oldest imperial city of Morocco. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Fes El Bali "Old Fes", where you will explore the old medina, the Bou Inania Medrass, Bab Boujeloud gate and the Al-Karaouine Medrassa, founded by Fatima Al Fahmi and recognised by the Guinness Word Records to be the oldest university in the world.

After lunch, you can visit the Fes El Jdid, "New Fes", Museum fo Moroccan Arts and the King's Palace. Explopre the leather tunneries and potters. Overnight in a riad which will be the venue for dinner.

7th day: Fes - Merzouga
After an early breakfast, you travel past Ifrane, nicknamed the Switzerland of Morocco, where houses have sloped roofs to cope with the seasonal snowfall. Right after, we begin ascending the Middle Atlas Mountains, driving along Berber Villlages and through the beautiful cedar forest of Azrou where you can get a glimps of Barbary apes.

Lunch will be in Midelt, surnamed "the apple capital" and situated at the foot of the Ayachi Mountain, Midelt is also famous for fossils and rocks artifacts. After crossing the Tizi-n-Telghemt pass, we driving along the Ziz Valley, known for it palm groves, numerous kasbahs and oasis to arrive in the adobe colored town of Er-Rachidia and Erfoud, famous for its date festival.

From Errissani, the beginning of Merzouga Dunes, you could either have camel caravane waiting for you to take you, in an hour to an hour & hald, to the desert camp otherwise, you go to the camp by the 4×4 car. Having arrived in the camp using the car, after being welcomed by a glass of tea and rested, you enjoy a camel ride to admire the sunset from the top of the Erg Chebbi Dunes. At night, dinner is served, followed by berber music and drumming and the overnight in a nomad private tent.

8th day: Merzouga
After breakfast, you can trek for a full day, where you will take the camel, either riding them or walking behind, as they carry everything you will need for lunch, which will be prepared by your camel man. You will walk for three hours in the morning and another three hours in the ofternoon to arrive at the camp for the night.

The second option, you can drive the car from the camp to the Khamlia Berbe Villlage where you will visit a Nomad in their house and have a glass of tea with them. Later, we visit Sub-Saharan who perform Gnawa Music. Back at the camp, at 250m, the sunset is a spectacular sight. Dinner is served in a nomad tent which is the venue for the overnight.

9th day: Merzouga - Dades Gorges:
Get up early in the morning to catch the spectacle of the sunrise when the orange color of the dunes that stretch for miles is an amazing sight. Having had breakfat in the camp, you set out behind the High Atlas Mountains on the way to the Todra Gorges. We continue driving till we arrive at Tinghir Village, the Todra Gorges, a hotspot for hiking and trekking enthusiasts, there are plenty of opportunities for walks in the gorge itself or by the side of the river and into the gardens.

After lunch at the edge of the gorge, the journey continues towards Dades Gorges, passing by the interesting Tamnalt Hills. Dinner and overnight in the heart of Dades Gorges lined by the red and mauve rocks.

10th day: Dades Gorges - Ouarzazate:
After breakfast, there is an opportunity for a walk in the Dades Valley. From here, the journey continue to Ouarzazate, driving off-road along the Boutartar piste, where you can visit the nomads to have a glass of tea with them.

The journey continues through the Roses Valley, to Kelaa Megouna where we visit the co-opreitve women that produce cosmetics from the roses of the valley. Having arrived in Skoura Oasis, a visit is scheduled to the Kasbah Amredhil, an interesting representation of old housing in the south where houses are built fom adobe to keep the houses cool in the summer and warm in the winter. After a drive through the Road of the Thousand Kasbahs, we arrive at Ouarzazate, where dinner is served and the overnight is spent in a beautiful guest house.

11th day: Ouarzazate - Marrakech:
Our Morocco tour adventure continues to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO Wold Hertage Site that set the scene for many Hollywood movies and the most famous kasbah in Morocco. After a one hour visit to the Kasbah, we drive along the beautiful Ounilla Valley to arrive in Kasbah Telouet.

Lunch will be served here, otherwise, it will be in the Atlas Mountains. A visit is scheduled to the kasbah, situated in the middle of the mountains, Kasbah Telouet, served once as a residential palace for the last Pasha of Marrakech and the El Glaoui Tribe. After the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, we cross the Atlas Mountains to arrive in Marrakech.

12th day: Marrkaech Sightseeing:
After breakfast in your riad, you will enjoy a full day guided tour of Marrakech, the sleepless city. You will explore the Bahia palace, the Majorelle garden with its blue washed walls and plenty of plants, the Saadian Tombs, and many other hidden treasures.

After lunch, you will continue the tour to the beautiful Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Square Djemaa el-Fna, one of the spectacular attractions of Marrakech. Enjoy story-tellers, snake charmers, women applying henna and many options for street food. Dinner and overnight in a beautiful riad.
